Geiger Law Office to Host Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Movie Premiere December 16, 2016 to Support the American Cancer Society

Event Proceeds Go to Raising Funds in the Fight to End Colon Cancer

Carlsbad, California (November 4, 2016) – Geiger Law Office, P.C., one of North County’s leading trusts, estate and business planning law firms, is proud to announce its second annual movie premiere event this year featuring Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. This exclusive preview event is to be held on December 16, 2016 at the Regal Cinemas in Carlsbad, CA. All proceeds are to support colon cancer research.

“Geiger Law Office is committed to raising awareness and funds for colon cancer research and support, this is a terrible disease and I personally have felt its effects through the loss of my father,” said Brenda Geiger, founder and managing attorney of Geiger Law Office. “In late December of 1990, my father was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer just after his 40th birthday. In the beginning, I don’t think any of us understood what was happening, including my father. My dad went through treatments and then surgery, but a little more than two months later he died. I was just 19. I remember thinking ‘How could this be? He is so young. We don’t even have any family history of colon cancer.’ My dad was not only a wonderful father, but he was my hero and it devastated me when I lost him. I don’t want any other little girl to feel that loss and lose her dad the way I did. Please, won’t you join me in helping us spread the word about awareness and early detection signs of colon cancer? With so many individuals who have been personally impacted by this horrible disease, we look forward to hosting our Rogue One: A Star Wars Movie Premiere and supporting The American Cancer Society in its fight to end cancer.”

The Facts for The American Cancer Society:

Excluding skin cancers, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the United States. The American Cancer Society’s estimates for the number of colorectal cancer cases in the United States for 2016 are:

  • 95,270 new cases of colon cancer
    • 39,220 new cases of rectal cancer

Overall, the lifetime risk of developing colorectal cancer is: about 1 in 21 (4.7%) for men and 1 in 23 (4.4%) for women. This risk is slightly lower in women than in men.

Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States when men and women are considered separately, and the second leading cause when both sexes are combined. It is expected to cause about 49,190 deaths during 2016.

Social Media Campaign

Geiger Law Office is supporting the fundraising efforts through a social media engagement program now through December to encourage people to share whom they are donating in support of using the hashtag #IDonateFor on Twitter and Facebook.

“The American Cancer Society is grateful for the support of philanthropic partners such as Geiger Law Office who have encouraged their clients and communities to become involved in raising awareness and funds to prevent and end colon cancer,” said Alan Andrade, Director of Major Gifts. “We’re excited to increase colon cancer awareness and help end the pain and suffering caused by this disease. Thanks to improvements in prevention, early detection, and treatment, more than a million people in the US count themselves as survivors of colon or rectum cancer (also called colorectal cancer).”
